Scientific Name: Pachira quinata (Jacq.) W.S. Alverson.

Other Common and Commercial Names: Saquisaqui (Venezuela), Ceiba tolua (Colombia).

Appearance: The heartwood is uniformly pale pink or pinkish brown when freshly cut and turns light reddish brown to dark when exposed; sharply demarcated from yellowish sapwood.

Characteristics: Straight grain to slightly nailed; medium texture; pretty low luster. Heartwood without distinctive smell, but sometimes with a slightly astringent flavor.

Weight: Basic specific gravity (ovendry weight / green volume) of 0.45; air-dry density of 34 pcf.

Janka rating: 650 lbs for green material and 720 lbs for dry.

Working properties: Wood has been reported as easy to work, finishing smoothly; It is also easy to nail.
